dejun grew up in a music loving family. his father is a drag performer, which caused some strain in the family due to his constant traveling when the boys were young, and the nature of his career. the times shifted, his dad revamping his character to an old woman and staying closer to home.

dejun pursued music on his own since he was young and attended arts schools in guangdong and then the shanghai theatre academy for university. in 2015 he participated in x-fire, a survival show partly sponsored by sm entertainment, and though he was eliminated early on, he was quietly accepted as a trainee at sm. he completed military training in 2017. in june 2018 he was announced in sm rookies, and as of january 2019 is an active member of the nct china unit, wayv (weishen v).
